To explain digital pioneering, it's best if we go back to the greatest pioneers who ever lived – Jesus Christ and the apostle Paul. They were pioneers because they reached out to people that others normally didn't reach out to.

For example, Jesus met a Samaritan woman who was despised by her own people, and pioneered a work among the Samaritans through that woman.

The apostle Paul did the same thing, reaching out to the Gentiles who were despised by Jews. Paul made them his mission – he loved them and reached them with the gospel of Jesus Christ. He walked thousands of miles along the Roman roads to reach the Gentiles with the gospel. Jesus did the same as he walked from place to place to preach the gospel.

Really that's what pioneering is all about.

Digital pioneering with the NPI is about reaching your own people, the people that speak your language and are of your culture. At the very least, it is key that you can speak their language and communicate with them. To help you, we can give you opportunities to reach your own people.

The type of pioneering that Jesus and Paul did is still possible today, but we now have something else, something new, that in many ways is far more effective than walking a Roman Road, and far easier than giving out copies of the Bible (although this is another great way of reaching people with the gospel). What we have is in our pockets, it's in our hands — it's our mobile phones, our access to the internet.

Most of us use this digital tool every single day — many of us every hour — and it’s one of the greatest tools to date in reaching the people that God has called us to reach with the gospel.
